All strategy labs at the local level have now been completed and each session will be analyzed as to what the survey is saying as well as some action steps that the co-op can take. The five high-level items that were identified at the statewide level as areas for improvement included:
- In-house safety meetings or safety discussions (estimated current effectiveness = 30%)
- Incident reporting and analysis (estimated current reporting = 25%; analysis = 10%)
- In-house crew observations (estimated current effectiveness = 40%)
- Internal safety communications (too complex to estimate current effectiveness)
- Safety committees (estimated current effectiveness = 30%)
The question that every cooperative should ask is How do we create or improve our culture of OPEN COMMUNICATION? And the answer must involve management in some form in that communication.
And what leading indicators are we leaving on the table?
The survey is also giving us things to look at in the ST&LP department. So, one of the main things we are asking ourselves is, How can we engage your folks better in the classroom-style safety meetings?
We are still working on analyzing each of the local strategy labs and finalizing them with a summary report for the CEO.
