South Central Power Completes First Phase of Fiber Internet Project

, which serves more than 125,000 members across 24 »Æ¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ counties, recently – its new fiber internet service network. Once complete, connectSCP will provide high-speed, broadband internet to unserved and underserved members across 14 counties within its service territory.Ìý

A says the initial phase of connectSCP’s 30-month rollout will connect about 2,500 homes in the New Market area of Highland and Adams counties, beginning this summer. This project is being enabled by grants from Broadband»Æ¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ, a state-sponsored broadband expansion program, from which South Central received roughly $100 million in grant funds.Ìý

South Central Power’s president and CEO Rick Lemonds in saying, “Our goal is that every member of the cooperative has access to high-speed internet, whether it’s from connectSCP or another provider. We want to be part of the solution to closing the digital divide in the rural communities we serve with power.â€
